Keeping Up With Resolutions: June 2012

This month has been a crazy month for me when it comes to work. My work schedule has kept me from doing almost every time in life (seeing friends, sleeping, showering, etc) so I knew that when it came time to sit down and write this months resolution review that it would be rough.

Read a book every month:
I started reading Bethenny Frankel's Place of Yes which I'm borderline embarrassed to admit but I have admitted that I love Bethenny in the past soooooooo.......
Not sure if I'll continue reading the book but it seems interesting enough.

Learn a new art form/technique:
I barely had enough time to shower properly this month.....so this resolution mos def fell to the way side

If I must eat a pizza, only one a month:
Let's just call his a "Fail" by questionable doubt.
I honestly can't remember if I ate enough to equal a whole medium size pizza but I have a feeling a did..... and may have even gone over.
We constantly have pizza delivered to set as "2nd meal" (this normally happens about 12-13 hours into the work day) and it's fairly hard to resist.
Also, we wrapped one of the lead actors for the movie and had some AMAZING pizza....and champagne. Oh yeah, film crews are classy people.

Eat more leafy greens:
I'm just gonna give myself a "C+" and call it a day with this one. I know I ate a good deal of salads this month but not as much as I think I should.

Cook/bake 2-3 new recipes a month:
FAILED! I think the only times I entered my kitchen this month was to open wine bottles and eat way to much cheese.

Keep in better contact with my Mother's friends:
I don't want to give myself to much credit for keeping up with this one as it's to similiar to what I did last month. I didn't want to "fail" at this resolution so last minute I sent my mother's friend flowers.

Travel to at least 2-3 new (to me) cities in the US by the end of the year:
Next month is going to be the month where I complete this one, I swear!

Ok, so this month wasn't the best of the months. In fact, it could be said it's been my worst yet but honestly this month has been crazy with my work schedule and I have literally only had 5 days off.....so I'm not going to beat myself up over it when I barely have enough time to sleep.

Have you been able to keep up with your resolutions????

I may be a little AWOL for another week or two.
My work schedule is getting OUT OF CONTROL as we are trying to rush-finsh filming in our current locations.
I'm assuming that reading post after post about how tired and stressed I am must get a bit boring so I've made a promise to myself that I will NOT post anymore along that subject matter.....at least for this film.

But I won't be completely absent from the digital world.

Dear 7 Day Work Week

I feel bad for recently complaining so much about my job as I am truly living the dream and working in the field I've wanted to work in since I was 10......but....I'M FREAKIN' EXHAUSTED! And we all know that once we reach a certain delirious point we can't think about anything but catching up on things like sleep (or minor things like laundry and a clean house).
I should also mention that I have clocked (by the end of my Wednesday work day) about 60 hours of work.....so my guess is I'll be close to over a 100 by the end of the week....or more

PS The lovely photo above is brought to you by my new favorite app I'd Cap That. It's hilariously addictive.

Easy Ways To Get A Concussion....

Last week at work I fulfilled a bucket list item: Sumo Wrestling
Here are some things I discovered:
-those suits are REALLY heavy!
-standing up after falling down is super hard (you feel like a turtle stuck on their back)
-Always, ALWAYS try to wrestle someone in your general weight class
I did 5 matches and lost EVERY one. Part of me wanted to lie and say I won one but alas, I will embrace my hardcore losing spree.
Well, I did win something....a minor concussion.
Those "helmets" really don't do much when you fall off the mat and slam your head on the hard ground.
Wonder what injury at work I will get next.....

Ever blink and realize the work week was over?
And not in a "oh-this-week-was-soooo-fun" way.
The "holy-sh*t-I-can't-believe-I-survived-the-cluster-f*ck-that-is-my-work-life" kinda way
(sorry for the intense cursing....but it's been that kind of week)
The saddest part?
I have a 7 day work week starting Sunday.
Ladies and (the few) gents.....will I survive?!?!!?

Hope y'all had a calmer work week!

Well Hello There Little Man.....

This weekend (and by weekend I mean the 32 hours I had off before having to go back again) John and I drove to Baton Rouge to meet the newest member of the clan!
It's so alarming to see a little boy amongst all the nieces! I'm so used to seeing only GIRL versions of John's genes that it's interesting to see what a little X-Y Chromosome can turn out like.
1) The little man passed out from all the attention 2) I found not just a dog under the table.... 3) John's god-daughter keeps getting cuter!!! I can't handle it!
While we were only about to stay for about 2 1/2 hours because John was actually working/filming later that night it was well worth the commute. Four little girls and a little boy all under the age of 7 in one room makes this girl very, VERY happy!

*Sigh* Now back to the work week we go.

Wish I could be super excited that today was Friday but sadly I have to work tomorrow!
Boo to 6 day work weeks (but yay to the paycheck later)!

Please, let me live vicariously through y'all.
What are you doing with your wonderful 2-day weekend???

Freret Street Market, Mon Amour

I love having lived in this city long enough now to see major changes happening and certain parts of the city becoming straight up AWESOME.
Freret Street is one of these places.
Not only have amazing restaurantsshops, and theater popped up recently but also we have a monthly market. I've walked away with some really amazing purchases from this place!
The food is always delicious and the best part is they tend to have repeats with vendors so if you miss out one month you can catch them the next time around.

Do y'all have any local markets that you just adore?

A day at Fountainebleau State Park

This past weekend John and I took a little drive outside the city to Fontainebleau State Park. I haven't been to the park for enjoyment for quite some time. Normally I'm there for work reasons.
It was really an enjoyable day. A bit on the humid side but still not as bad as it normally is in early June in southern Louisiana.
1) A man and his dog 2) Jackson couldn't have been more thrilled to be part of this day 3) Drink up, buddy
 1) A perfect day 2) Jackson taking a mini-break....to much fun 3) Oh the places we'll go
 1) Looking for alligators 2) Jackson kept wanting to jump in the water 3) Fun Fact: Jackson is the Louisiana State Dog 4) Resting my tired feet
Jackson normally will NEVER look into the camera for photos. It's like he's Amish or something. The only time I can get good photos of him is when he's super tired......so I milked it like crazy.

I really need to make more time to go to Fountainebleau Park more often. It's so beautiful and the perfect little escape from the city.

Oyster Fest 2012

Remember how recently I said festival season was over? Well I lied. Not on purpose. Nay. I just thought it seemed like festival season may come to a stand still due to the impending intense heat. It's funny that I've lived in New Orleans for 4 years (on and off for 5 1/2 years) and I still can't keep track of these things.
Aaaaaanyway, this weekend was The Oyster Festival. John loooooves oysters......fanatical might even be a better choice word. Not sure if you remember a oil spill caused by BP (this is meant to be read in a sarcastic manner) but it completely f*cked up our oysters for awhile. Whenever we vacationed outside of Louisiana, we were constantly on the look-out for oysters. While things aren't 100% back to normal with the local seafood industry things are looking up.
1) Half a dozen Acme oysters? Don't mind if I do 2) Sucking the oysters down 3) Keeping the festival alive in 2012!
 1) One of the best parts of festivals is trying out new restaurants (to us) and enjoying the food enough to try it out later 2) "Bloody" oysters with a shot of vodka poured it them!
While I don't eat seafood myself I still found a little something at the festival thanks to Andrea's stand with some delicious cheese ravioli.

Festivals in New Orleans never bore me. I love them so much! Till next weekend's festival????

Life As of Lately

I'm so happy that the weekend is already here! For the first time in forever I can say the work week felt like it went by quickly.....
Oh wait, maybe that's because I only had a 3-day work week!

Here is a little highlight (via my Iphone) of what I've been up to lately:
1) Kinda obsessed with Essie nail polish 2) Sucre....single-handedly expanding my waistline 3) French Quarter bike rides with friends
 1) Sunsets at NOMA 2) Kahlo's legs have finally healed enough for her to climb into the window and watch birds. She's waited over 2 months for this!
 1) Enjoying as much time with my boy before he starts his next movie and we are on completely different schedules until mid-july....I might not even actually physically SEE him till then!
1) It's kitten time! Meet Creux! 2) One of the best bars in the Quarter and best place for Sunday afternoon beers 3) I invest alot of money DJ-ing it up via jukeboxes.

Hope y'all have an amazing weekend!!!
