Keeping Up With Resolutions: April

This month has been, in my opinion, a fairly successful one. Thinking back on it I was fairly surprised by the amount of stuff I crammed into one month! Much more noteworthy than last month.

Read a book every month:
COMPLETE! But sadly the book sucked. Mid-way through reading it I thought, "Crap, I'm going to post about this book at the end of the month and people will question my taste in books"
I read Girls in White Dresses by Jennifer Close.....for some reason I thought it was going to be like One Perfect Day: The Selling of the American Wedding by Rebecca Mead.
Whatever. I read the book but wasn't happy with it. My bad.

Learn a new art form/technique:
I did paint this month but haven't moved onto the new art form. I have zoned in on what I want it to be though!

If I must eat pizza, only one a month:
Holy crap, this month was haaaaaard. I ate EXACTLY one medium pizza (combined) this month. Whew. Cut it close.

Eat more leafy greens:
SUCCESS! I give myself a "A" for this month. Not one day has gone by without me eating a salad of some kind. Currently I'm obsessed with Butter Lettuce or Arugula.

Cook/bake 2 new recipes a month:
CHECK!!! I made Blue Cheese Guacamole (which John loved), Grilled Corn, Avocado, and Tomato salad, Hummus Melts (which I tried with regular bread then with Portabellos), Roasted Cumin-Lime Carrots (I also tried the same recipe with asparagus), and John and I made up our own Jalapeno Popper recipe!!! I swear, the only reason I can justify wasting hours on pinterest is knowing I'll find some awesome recipes to try for my new years resolution.

Keep in better contact with my Mom's friends:
Yes!!! I mailed her a Easter card with some photos this month. PLUS, I already pre-ordered her something for May.....not sure if that's cheating or not. I'm going to pretend it's not.

Travel to 2-3 new (to me) cities in the US by the end of the year:
No new cities this month but I have done some hardcore planning for a road trip with some crew members of the film I'm currently on. It probably won't take place till early July.....but then again, I won't have much free time to do anything till July.

Have you been able to keep up with your resolutions?

Ask Away!

Alright, my dearest readers!
Here is when I ask you to ask me anything!
I'm going to make a little Q&A section and I need your help (seriously, I don't understand how to make widgets).
What are some things you want to know about me? Or know more about?
Also, are there any features you would like me to do more of?

Note: I totally could have been a Welch's Grape Juice kid, RIGHT!?!?!

A Day on the Bayou

This past weekend John and I finally got around to something we've wanted to do for, well, years.
Each weekend we tend to say, "We should go kayaking on the Bayou" and each weekend comes and goes without us getting around to doing it.
This weekend just felt right.
Not only was it Earth Day but the weather was undeniable beautiful. The kind of weather where you just have to be outside.
I'm hoping we can figure out a way to make this more of a regular thing. We even talked about maybe buying a kayak for keeps. We shall see.

Note: Clearly I'm the rebel in the relationship as I wouldn't wear a life jacket :)

TREAT YO-SELF Tuesday: April 24th

This week's TREAT YO-SELF is brought to you by my utter lack of any shoes in my closet and realizing that it's time I branch into other colors of shoes other then red ***
I could have gone with a "fancier" shoe. One that might go well with, oh say, a nice dress for a wedding. But nay, I went with another pair of Toms. I love the shit out of my current pair and tend to just re-buy them every 2-3 months whenever I wear my previous pair out. They always remind me of wearing ballet slippers which brings back childhood/teenage years fond memories.
Jackson not recognizing his Mama without red shoes
Did I reeeeeally need a new pair of Toms? No. My current pair a still in borderline good condition.  Do my feet feel all fancy and clean when I put them on? Yup. And I bet I could jump higher just because they are new shoes. Am I wondering if I will ever wear them because I hate wearing shoes that aren't red? Yes, yes, yes.
But you know what.....it's Tuesday, so f*ck it, TREAT YO-SELF!

***Fun Fact: One of my favorite movies as a child was The Red Shoes which starred Moira Shearer. I was a ballet dancer for most my life so the fact that this was a dance movie and the star shared my first name excited me greatly. When I got older I actually started making a conscious effort to only wear red shoes. As I started working in film it became my trademark on film sets. Better yet, some people even got the film reference when they heard my name and saw my shoes without even asking!

Happy Earth Day!

Hope y'all had an amazing weekend. I sure as heck did!
I know I'm a day late but I just wanted to say HAPPY EARTH DAY!
One of my favorite festivals in New Orleans is our Earth Day Festival. It's totally the best festival to be a vegetarian at. I may or may not have eaten a TAD to much yesterday.
One of my favorite vendor foods yesterday was the "Save a Crab" Cake. Yum. Yum. Yum!
Do any of your towns have special festivals for Earth Day?

Also, please check out The Gulf Restoration Network and consider donating to the organization. I actually worked for them for a summer and totally believe in their causes years later.

Friday the 13th Stabbing

Let the tally count of my yearly injuries increase!
And let it be ridiculous and full of blood on the horror movie date of the year Friday the 13th
Today, on set, I was rushing around trying to rip down a fence with a VERY sharp pocket knife and BAM, right on the top half of my left hand I stabbed myself....like a idiot.
Left Hand vs Right Hand
Now for those of you who may have been keeping track I LITERALLY just got out of a wrist brace this week from a previous injury I had on set back in January. I have a pretty awesome tan line from it as well.
I had to leave set to go to the ER....it was pretty embarrassing. I will proudly admit that I continued to work (and finish cutting down the fence) before heading over to the set medic with two fist full of gushing blood.
The picture I took doesn't do it much justices. It was HELLA deep. I'm actually going to urgent care tomorrow to get a follow up because I don't trust the doctor that snitched me up. OH! And the best part, they didn't give me enough pain medicine to numb it before stitching it up. I felt it ALL!

Kahlo's Epic Journey Continues....

Recently Kahlo had knee surgery on both her back legs. It KILLED me to see her in a little kitten cast and in pain.
This weekend things got EPIC!
We took her to the vet on Saturday because I knew something was wrong. She wasn't attempting to walk which the vet told us she should be by that point. She was barely eating and didn't seem like herself.
Upon arriving at the vets things took a wickedly surprising turn. I thought she had a bacterial infection but much to my AND the vets surprise....she had BROKEN her back left leg.
Yes. That's right. BROKEN HER LEG while in a cast!
The vet had NEVER seen this happen in his 30+ years of being a orthopedic vet.
She had to go into emergency surgery that day and stay for observation until Tuesday night. It's ridiculous how much this little kitty has been through. I feel so bad for her but keep trying to focus on how she'll be able to walk normally once she's all healed.
Fingers crossed we're not in for anymore surprises....

PS My TREAT YO-SELF post might be few and far between due to some hefty vet bills.

Fun in the Sun

Around this time each year I start to develop my freaky dark tan (for being a blonde). I spend almost all my time outside for work so it's only natural but sometimes it just looks ridiculous.
The picture above is a perfect example.

It should also be noted that I do develop some ridiculous tan lines (see example: here) though.

3 Day Holiday Weekend REPRESENT!!!

This weekend was awesome. It was just what I needed to recoup from all the stressful, long work days I've been having lately. I wish it was a 4 day weekend.....heck, I wish it were a week!
Here is a little (picture) review of my holiday weekend:
 1) Dinner at one of our faves 2) Bike rides everywhere 3) Trying out a Blue Cheese Guacamole recipe
 1) Freret Street Festival!!! 2) Kahlo needed an emergency visit to the vet....and MORE surgery 3) Men loving on new grills.
 1) Holiday grocery shopping 2) Finally watching a movie I worked on over 2 years ago 3) I was a hand double (by total fluke, they threw me in last minute) and made the cut.
 1) The girl loves her bike 2) Red Velvet Whoopie pies....my kryptonite 3) One of my favorite pictures in John's Mom's house. That's his father back in the 70s! I can totally see similar features between the too.
 1) Caroline lectured her cousins on the importance of sharing. Neither paid attention. I couldn't stop laughing 2) Sydney helps makes mash potatoes 3) Tried Cake Pops for the first time 4) Love this little girl
 1) All the nieces together! 2) The VERY youngest in the clan....due May 14th!
1) One of my besties joined us for Easter at John's family and witnessed how amazing they are too 2) Men cleaning up after Easter lunch. LOVE IT! 3) Catch me if you can!

How was your 3 day weekend?

Kitten in a Cast

Recently Kahlo had knee surgery on BOTH her knees leaving her in little kitten casts until mid-April. It's completely heartbreaking! She has no clue what the heck is going on and why she suddenly can't stand up for more than 5 seconds at a time.
On top of her not being able to stand she has to take medicine twice a day. The task is horrifying on both sides. She screams and fights us which makes us want to cry but we know she has to take them in order for her to fully heal.
Does anyone out there have any advice on how to give cats medicine?

It's Cray-Cray Time!

It's one of the best times of year in New Orleans: Crawfish season!

While I don't eat meat (which I consider seafood a meat) I still love going to boils. At a recent crawfish boil I even shucked my first oyster! Weird for a vegetarian to do such things but ya gotta experience everything once, right?
Next up, John and I need to host our first boil of the season!

Note: Look for my super sweet tan lines on my right wrist. This weekend marked my first weekend without my brace from my sprain MONTHS ago.
